About

I’m Mary Morningstar Johnson, owner of Ruby and Violet Designs. After working for 17 years in Higher Education, I decided in 2018 to pursue my passion for sewing and design. My mom taught me to sew at a very young age; however, it wasn't until my college years that I really developed a love for it. Garments were always what I chose to design and sew, but after a move to Southern Illinois and meeting a great group of quilters, I discovered a new love...quilting!

My biggest goal for my business is to bring my unique perspective into the quilting world, through my focus on beautiful craftsmanship, and a vibrant use of color in my work. I want to be inclusive in my approach to quilting by helping others to feel comfortable and confident with the creative process.

I get excited about organization, cooking and baking, and crafting. I have big plans to grow my business and am excited about offering a variety of quilting specific products at Ruby and Violet Designs, as well as moving the business toward quilt pattern and hopefully one day surface pattern design.
